What is this page about?

This is the journey of one little girl and her family as they raise money to achieve their goal of obtaining a Smart Pup Autism Assistance Pup for Celeste.

Celeste is a beautiful 7 year old girl who has Autism. For her day to day life is confusing and frustrating. She does not understand the world as a normal child does, with sounds, smells and social cues causing confusion that lead to violent meltdowns. She finds it difficult to do the simple things that children her age do such as going to the shops, visiting the cinema or museum. These are often done from the confines of her pram which provides her with a world of her own that she feels is safe. This restricts her ability to learn from her environment. For Celeste daily tasks such as brushing her hair, bathing and getting dressed cause meltdowns.

Celeste presents with a number of difficulties in her life across the area's of social interaction and social communication, restricted and repetitive behaviours, speech and language delays, motor difficulties, cognitive difficulties, sensory processing difficulties and issues with emotional regulation. These difficulties impact on her ability to engage and interact with her environment.

A Smart Pup Autism Assistance dog will change Celeste's life. With the help of her four legged companion she will be able to leave her pram when out and still feel secure and protected. I will no longer need to worry about her running away when out as she will be able to be tethered to the dog who will always be by her side. Meltdowns, which are both verbal and physically violent toward others, will be dealt with by a little nudge of distraction and companion love.

For the family, myself a single mum and her brother who also has Autism, this dog will help relieve some of our daily stress and help us know that Celeste is always safe. It would also keep us safe as it comes between Celeste and the one she is aggressing toward.

On the positive side Celeste is a beautiful little girl that tells her family she loves them and tries so hard to be nice. Autism is the demon that is controlling her body, making her feel anxious, sad, angry and alone in this world. For Celeste each day is filled with mental pain.

Unfortunately this life changing dog does not come cheap. As part of our commitment to the training and care of this Smart Pup we must contribute $20,000 to the cost. I rarely ask for help, instead choosing to pay it forward to others, but in this situation I must call upon the kind heart of those within society and ask for just a little bit of support and love. Every cent counts and every cent gives me hope that my little girl will soon be experiencing the world as other kids do.

Thank you for taking a moment to read our blog.

Every dollar counts and every donation is appreciated.
